New Double Dutch Club for adults
Thursday Nights at 6:30. Email me for location in Bakersville area (if we get enough people)
No experience necessary. This is a jumping club for adults who want to learn to double Dutch, de-stress in a safe environment, get some exercise in a supportive group, and learn to play again. The aim of the group is community, play (and even a healing place for adults) rather than strictly skill. I hope you will join us.

Dig In! Yancey and High Country Ceramics in Burnsville will host an Empty Bowls throwing day on August 17 starting at 10:00.
Potters of all levels are welcome, we’ll have wheels set up, and plenty of room for hand building. We’ll provide pizza for lunch and go as long as we can stand it, come for an hour or all day. If you can transport a wheel, we’d love to have more available.
If you’d like to donate a bag of cone 6 clay, or a few dollars to help cover the cost of glazes we’d certainly love that too! And as always, bring a side dish or snacks if you are in the mood.
Then…. Decorating day on September 7: underglazes, glazes, all skill levels welcome. I’ll send out more details on that one later.
We are looking for about 200 more bowls for our October 4th event, so if you have some finished or even just bisqued (please, please, please, know the clay body) bring them along that day as well.
Questions, comments, jokes, movie recommendations? Contact Sarah House.

Have you noticed the sudden proliferation of mushrooms in the woods? If you'd like to learn about our incredible local fungi diversity, we have a few spots in two upcoming nature retreats, Aug 17-19 & Sept 14-15. We'll spend mornings learning mushrooms and forest ecology; afternoons hiking and cooling off under hidden waterfalls. The August retreat features meals by Sweet Potato Tooth and nightwalks in search of foxfire (bioluminescence) and forest fluorescence. There is at least one room still available at the Celo Inn, as well as day-only spots for locals. See the website for more details and overnight pricing; day prices can be sliding scale, at a per diem rate (starting at $100/day, including meals).
