Send listings to celolist@gmail.com. Please keep your listings short--100-word limit. Submissions of over 100 words will be edited for length. Verbose listings may be edited regardless of length. No attachments or pictures (links are fine) -- please put all the relevant text in the body of your e-mail so I can copy and paste. And please include your name so we know who is speaking.
Please limit listings to activities/stuff in Yancey and Mitchell. Political events and announcements are fine but not political rants. Real estate listings from property owner only. The Celo List is currently going to 2,700 subscribers, mostly in Yancey and Mitchell. Unsubscribe link is at the bottom.
Needless to say, a listing here does not constitute an endorsement of truthfulness or good character.

North Carolina House Bill 47 was signed March 19, 2025 and included assistance to Yancey and surrounding counties for the repair of private road and bridges. The deadline is April 7. Application form is available here.
The application is clear and easily completed online. There is very little time to apply , given the April 7 deadline.
------------------------------
[Editor’s Note: There is definitely an April 7 deadline to apply for FEMA assistance. However, I am unable to find any deadline for the Private Road and Bridges Program. The form for that program is listed as a “program participation interest form” so there may be more time on this.]

Free: Old electric Singer sewing machine with integrated wood table. Model 201-2. Definitely a fixer-upper. It’s been living on my porch for a year, so the wood is pretty badly damaged and some of the knobs could use some penetrant. Still works, though. Machine part alone lists $400-600 on eBay, so someone with the energy to fix it up could make some $$$. Free to good home, bad home, or any home. First come first serve—if you don’t hear back from me, it’s gone. Email for address. Serious inquiries only.

Wildfire/home safety tip for those interested: Consider increasing the amount of fire protection and debris removal on your home owner's insurance, or talk to your landlord about their policy to make sure you're protected in the ways you'd like to be protected. Also, here's a wildfire home assessment PDF. Please be safe!

As our community continues to heal from Helene, I keep thinking of a documentary photo project to commemorate what we've lost and honor our process of rebuilding. If something dear to you suffered damage would you lend me an hour of your time to tell me about it and let me take some photos? (You can choose whether you'd like to be in them.) This is nonprofit and my ultimate hope would be to display these photos, paired with your words, in a local gallery or bookstore. You can findmy photos on my Instagram. Please reach out if you’re interested in participating or if you have any questions!

The Rotary Club of Burnsville is searching for three host families for an 11th grade female foreign exchange student from Spain for the 2025 – 2026 school year at Mountain Heritage High School. The host family will need to provide a bedroom with a study space. The student will have health insurance and a $100/month allowance. Each host family will have the student for three months. Single parents are welcome to apply, and it isn’t necessary to have children in high school. Our club has had older host parents, and the experience was wonderful for the student and the host family.

Does anyone know if there is someone locally that can take VHS Tapes and convert them to digital format? I prefer someone who would take care to preserve the original tapes while extracting the info? I would rather pay someone local and keep my treasured home videos close by rather than have to mail them across the country.

Hey everyone my friend who lives behind South Toe Elementary has 2 dogs missing. They've been gone since sometime Saturday. The mother is a small husky mix with blue eyes and her name is Doja very friendly but shy. She has her 4 month old son, Shadow, with her. He is black with a bit of white and blue eyes. They were seen on White Oak Sunday. Doja has wandered to White Oak before as well as Grindstaff, Halls Chapel, and 7 Mile.
If you see them please reach out to Melissa at 828-284-6871.
