Part 1 for this week
Send listings to celolist@gmail.com. Please keep your listings short--100-word limit. Submissions of over 100 words will be edited for length. Verbose listings may be edited regardless of length. No attachments or pictures (links are fine) -- please put all the relevant text in the body of your e-mail so I can copy and paste. And please include your full name so we know who is speaking.
Please limit listings to activities/stuff in Yancey and Mitchell. Political events and announcements are fine but not political rants. Real estate listings from property owner only. The Celo List is currently going to 2,500 subscribers, mostly in Yancey and Mitchell. Unsubscribe link is at the bottom.
I will be grateful if you format your listing using the Celo List format:
Your Name
Your Email (if you want to be contacted by email)
Your Phone (if you want to be contacted by phone)
Listing (100 words or less)
Needless to say, a listing here does not constitute an endorsement of truthfulness or good character.
The Celo List goes out once a week, usually on Sunday. There's no deadline, but if you want to be sure your item is included, it's a good idea to get it in by Saturday.
>>>>>I don't monitor the inbox, so if something needs to go out before Sunday, you'll need to call me and let me know.<<<<<
The Celo List archive is here: celolist.substack.com/archive

These rains should provide us with the first good flushes of summer mushrooms. I'm hosting a mushroom walk this coming Friday, July 12 at 3 p.m. You can register online, or book directly with me at a discount (email me). For an overview of our local forest fungi, see my latest piece in the Mt XPress.
For those interested in an even more immersive experience in Appalchian forests, we are hosting two late-summer nature retreats, Aug 17-19 & Sept 14-15. We spend mornings marveling at and learning about the incredible fungal diversity of Blue Ridge forests and afternoons hiking hilly trails and cooling off under waterfalls. Evenings feature delicious meals by David Rich of Sweet Potato Tooth, followed by night walks in search of foxfire, under the ratcheting hum of katydids. Each retreat has at least one room still available at Celo Inn, and there will be day-only spots as well. See the website for details and pricing; day prices range from $200-$500 and include meals.
