Celo Community Center
Saturday, May 11 from 10-12
Join me for a morning of creativity to consider what experiences, in your last days in this body, would feel like an honoring of your time here and bring you comfort and peace. Art has the power to wake up our imaginations and carry us across the threshold of our culturally inflicted fear, so that we can see what might help us meet death with an equanimity that is generous, both for ourselves and those who tend us. Vision your way forward! Absolutely no art experience is necessary.

A local skills gathering, Firefly Gathering, is moving into our neck of the woods this year! WOOHOOO! and, they're looking for a field or fields within a 20 minute radius of their new location, 6666 Double Island Road, to use as a satellite parking lot for the event.
They're willing to pay for (and make sure it's left well, with reseeding/mulching/etc. as needed) a relatively flat space(s)/field(s) that ideally would fit between 100-300 cars and be available to them for the week of June 16-21, 2024 (plus a few days on either side for setup/breakdown of the lot). They may need to limit capacity for the event if they can't find something, which would be a shame.
If you're interested please reach out to me or Madison Moore at madisonmooreart@gmail.com . Thanks for considering!

I'm a filmmaker who lives in Barnardsville. Last summer, a few months before Joe Hollis passed away, I created a 30-minute documentary about Joe Hollis and Mountain Gardens. I spent a lot of time with Joe, filming him around his property in Celo, and also interviewed him having deep philosophical conversations with Dr. Azra Bertrand about our connection with nature. I’m excited to say that the film has been accepted into an international film festival focused on climate awareness. You can read about that here.

Have y’all noticed that all of Yancey and Mitchell counties just got sprayed with a heavy dose of what I can only assume was glyphosate?! “They” are trying to kill Japanese knotweed but are painfully mistaken about how to do this. County and state denied responsibility. I filed a complaint with the epa. If anyone knows who is responsible please let me know. I want to try to understand their reasoning for their methods and offer them my ideas.
